Oh, those awful teenage coats. those of you with short coated breeds, and particularly some lines of great danes, you will notice in their teenage months 9 month - 18 month they will go through a normal puppy shedding that in some cases is pretty awful.. I have a female great dane that has started shedding real bad and i dont know what to do. it started probably six months ago, and i thought it would stop, but as you can see since i am writing this it is still happening.. Great danes and other smooth coated dogs do tend to be shedders, but if its really excessive, you should improve the quality of the food the dog is eating, and take it for a checkup if that doesn't improve the situation. really excessive shedding can be indicative of other health problems..
Max the great dane loves to be scratched and massaged. unfortunately, like most danes he he sheds white fur.....a lot of fur. watch and laugh as 200 lbs max creates a snow storm of white fur while. Some danes just shed more than others and this can be an inherited genetic trait. poor thyroid levels have been known to cause excessive shedding and droopy eyes, skin, etc. my suggestion as always with bathing a dane is don't, unless there is a need to bathe, dog rolled in something stinky, dog smells, etc.. Yes, like all dogs great danes shed! the good news is that great danes have a short-haired coat that is easy to maintain. an occasional bath and quick weekly brushing will go a long way in reducing shedding..
